Les Heritiers du Comte LAFON
History
Founded in 1999 by the esteemed Meursault winemaker Dominique Lafon, Domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon emerged as an ambitious extension of his Côte de Beaune legacy into the Mâconnais, southern Burgundy. Motivated by the region’s overlooked potential and picturesque terroir, he purchased around 14 hectares of high-altitude, older vineyards to bring serious Chardonnay into the limelight. Located in Milly-Lamartine, with holdings spread across Milly-Lamartine, Bussières, Uchizy, Viré-Clessé, and extending into Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé, the domaine’s 26 hectares of clay-limestone soils are dedicated exclusively to Chardonnay.
Farming and Philosophy
From 2003, Lafon converted the property to organic and biodynamic viticulture, cultivating the vines with rigorous soil rejuvenation, tight yield control, and green harvesting. This philosophy mirrors the high standards of his Côte d’Or estate. The domaine uses traditional, parcel-by-parcel vinification, with delicate pressing and aging in large neutral oak vessels—foudres and demi-muids—to preserve freshness and terroir clarity rather than oak dominance.
