History

Rooted in the heart of Meursault, Domaine Michelot has been shaped by six generations of dedicated vignerons. The estate truly rose to prominence in the mid-20th century under Bernard Michelot, whose passion and ambition expanded the vineyards and established a reputation for excellence. Today, the domaine covers around 19 hectares, with an enviable collection of village and Premier Cru parcels that showcase the richness and diversity of Meursault’s terroirs. Bernard’s legacy continues through his grandson Nicolas Mestre, who has brought fresh energy and vision since taking over in 2009. Under his guidance, Domaine Michelot has embraced organic farming and a philosophy that marries tradition with modern precision—ensuring that the wines remain benchmarks of elegance, depth, and authenticity in Burgundy.

Farming and Philosophy

At Domaine Michelot, the vineyards are farmed with the utmost respect for the land. Since the early 2010s, the estate has followed organic practices, officially obtaining Ecocert certification in 2020. Cover crops are maintained between rows to encourage deeper roots, improve soil health, and naturally balance yields. Harvesting is done by hand to preserve fruit quality, with grapes handled gently from vineyard to press. In the cellar, vinifications are precise yet minimalist: fermentations with native yeasts, élevage in large oak barrels, ceramic eggs, and even glass vessels. The goal is always to let terroir speak—producing wines that express both the power and finesse of Meursault without being overshadowed by heavy oak or intervention.
