Domaine Jean Fournier

History

One of the oldest estates in Marsannay, with origins tracing back to the early 17th century during the reign of Louis XIII. The domaine spans 22.5 hectares across Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune, producing a diverse range of red, white, and rose wines. Under the stewardship of Laurent Fournier since 2001, the estate has embraced organic viticulture, achieving Ecocert certification in 2008. Laurent’s commitment to minimal intervention winemaking emphasizes the expression of terroir, vintage, and grape variety.

Farming and Philosophy

The vineyards are cultivated with respect for the soil and biodiversity, employing practices such as horse-drawn ploughing and organic composting. Harvesting is manual, with grapes sorted meticulously to ensure quality. Red wines undergo fermentation with up to 50% whole clusters, followed by aging in a combination of barrels and concrete vats, allowing for natural expression and aging potential. Notably, the domaine maintains a small plot of Aligoté vines over 80 years old, producing wines of remarkable freshness and concentration.
